GREENOCK Wanderers make the short trip along the M8 corridor tomorrow to Braidholm in Clarkston where they face Glasgow Hutchesons Aloysians in yet another match of the day in the Royal Bank of Scotland League Championship A.

For Wanderers it will be an extremely tough examination against the side currently sitting in third place, and only another dogged and spirited performance, similar to that on show last weekend at home against Whitecraigs, will suffice if the locals are to take anything from the match.

The Glasgow side are reputed to be extremely quick out of the blocks and try and blow away opposition sides in the first quarter of the match.

Their three wins from four games this season have all featured strong starts whereby leads have been built in the early stages.

They also boast international class centres in Andy Henderson and Hefin O'Hare. Henderson was capped 53 times by Scotland and is currently the club captain at GHA.

Tomorrow's test is a formidable one for the Greenock men and in the corresponding fixture last season Wanderers were well beaten 55-12, conceding 21 points in the opening quarter of an hour.

In fairness the losing margin was close at Fort Matilda but having lost both games against GHA last term the locals will, once more, go into the match as clear underdogs.

The mood down Fort Matilda way though is buoyant and with improvements made on a weekly basis Wanderers are relishing the prospect of tangling with the division's more favoured teams.

Head coach Graham Finnie said: "Whitecraigs drawing level with the last kick of the match was a disappointing end to last weekend's game, but having analysed the performance we can take plenty of positives from it.

"We have had a good week on the training paddock and we are looking to continue improving and testing ourselves against the better sides in the league.

"It doesn't come much tougher than a visit to Braidholm but we will be well prepared and look to give another good account of ourselves." In terms of selection Wanderers will make one enforced change to their starting line-up.

Second row Jamie Mooney has work commitments and his non-availability gives Murray McDonald the opportunity to regain the number five jersey.

Mooney and former skipper Matt Gray have formed a strong partnership in the boiler house this season but both know that McDonald is waiting in the wings and he gets his opportunity tomorrow.

Skipper Ali Abernethy, Graham Mooney and Callum Robb form the breakaway trio and with the match likely to be an open and fast flowing affair their contribution in the loose will be vital.

Ball security in the contact zone was exceptional last weekend with Abernethy, Mooney and Robb making their presence felt at the breakdown, by protecting the ball carrier and ensuring that Wanderers possession was quickly recycled.

Turnover ball at this level is rare but the Greenock trio have an aggressive rucking style that produces more than its fare share of opposition ball.

If they can disrupt the hosts' effort in the tight exchanges with a strong counter-rucking performance then that will go a long way towards ensuring Wanderers' maintain the initiative throughout the 80 minutes.

As always a key sub-plot to the game will be the midfield battle between Wanderers highly rated centre pairing Brendan McGroarty and Kieren Smith and GHA's international double act Henderson and O'Hare.

The Wanderers' duo coped admirably with their more illustrious opponents last season and will have no inhibitions tomorrow as they go head to head once more.

President Graeme Alexander said: "It's a great opportunity for us to lay down a marker to other teams in the division by getting points at Braidholm tomorrow which is, without doubt, one of the most difficult fixtures of the season.

"We are improving on a weekly basis and we know that we have to match GHA in every facet of the game straight from the start.

"Self-belief is growing in the squad and we will travel with confidence and with the intention of playing to our strengths and making life difficult for the hosts.

"We are ready and confident of doing well." For Wanderers to achieve success tomorrow they simply must start strongly and prevent GHA from getting into their stride and establishing an early lead.

In addition to skipper Abernethy, the Greenock men also have plenty of natural leaders in their team who will be aware of this and do their utmost to gain early superiority.

If that can be achieved then Wanderers are more than capable of producing the upset of the day by securing a victory at Braidholm.
