Right on our doorstep, Wemyss Bay has been named one of the most romantic places for couples to enjoy a weekend break.

Parkdean Resorts say online searches for 'couples holiday' is up 129 per cent in the past 12 months, so have named our Inverclyde town in their list of romantic getaways.

Dubbing it a 'stunning and historic seaside town', the holiday company think it's the perfect place for couples to spend quality time together.

But, just what can you do in Wemyss Bay?

Have your Notting Hill moment

Wemyss Bay is lucky enough to have its own bookshop in the famous railway station. You might not see Hugh Grant in the popular stop which boasts very reasonably priced books, but you could pick up a romantic book or two.

Closed until later in the month, it might be one to keep in mind to visit on a sunny Saturday afternoon.

Take in the beautiful architecture

Always commended for its beautiful architecture, the station itself is beautiful. Given a £4 million revamp a few years ago, it is easily one of Scotland's most visually pleasing stations. It was even good enough for Martin Freeman who filmed a Christmas advert in the station a few years ago. 

Cosy up at the fireside 

As well as offering a whole host of tantalising tipples, Wemyss Bay Station Bar boasts a cosy open fire. The perfect place for enjoying a drink with someone you love.

Take a stroll along the beach

If you can brave the cold, Wemyss Bay Beach is a stunning place to take a stroll. You can take in one of its amazing sunsets or watch the ferry pass you by.
