A FANTASTIC fundraising business which has given more than £10,000 to local good causes is celebrating its two-year anniversary with a special treasure hunt.

Clyde Eats director and co-founder Janine Brennan says she can't wait to mark the popular local company’s second birthday next month.

The business was established by Janine and her sister Yvonne Purdie in 2021 to challenge mainstream food ordering apps and support the local economy.

Janine told the Tele that she and her sister had been keen to ensure the firm had a community focus and give away a percentage of their quarterly profits to three local causes.

As well as supporting Man On Inverclyde, Inverclyde Foodbank and Ardgowan Hospice, the company has also sponsored football teams in the area and helped pay for local dancers to compete in international tournaments.

Greenock Telegraph: Janine Brennan celebrates Clyde Eats second anniversary

Janine said: “We started this business because we were working with Just Eat and they were taking over £1,000 a week from us in commissions.

“We thought there had to be something else we could do to help ourselves and help other local businesses.

“We wanted it to be a real community app which would save customers and businesses money but also give back to the community, which was one of the biggest parts for me.

“We run competitions and we work closely with Morton in the Community, running things like ‘predict the score’ competitions whenever they’ve got a home game.

“We’ve recently launched a community website as well to share what we’re doing.

“Everything we do we try to keep in Inverclyde, we want to be as local as possible.”

Clyde Eats has also received recognition within the local business community for its work, scooping up an award for entrepreneurism at the Inverclyde Chamber of Commerce’s ICON Awards and being given a commendation at the Tele’s own Community Champions Awards earlier this year.

The business will be stashing golden envelopes around Inverclyde as part of its anniversary celebrations next month which will contain fabulous prizes for the lucky locals who find them - such as an overnight stay at Langbank’s Gleddoch Hotel.

Janine added: “We’re really keen to celebrate this anniversary and keep getting our name out there so people can find out what we’re about.

“We started with 22 businesses on the platform, and we’ve now got 68 which is excellent.

“We’ve got a plan to keep growing the business and hopefully marking this milestone will be another step in the right direction.”
