TINY tots are getting their first taste of hip hop at funky sessions with a dance artist in the Beacon.

Greenock Telegraph:

Dance artist-in-residence Nadia Sewnauth has been helping Inverclyde fall in love with the street dance over the summer months.

From the arts centre to the east end she has put on free classes for all ages.

Greenock Telegraph:

Now in her final weeks of laying on the fun sessions, parents and toddlers have been getting in the groove.

Nadia, who runs her own dance school Forever Funk, said: "It is great to see all the toddlers here having fun and parents spending quality time as well.

"I love these classes and then I have the classes with the mums in slings. But that is more about the parents. I just want to introduce people to dance."

Greenock Telegraph:

Funded by the Inverclyde Culture Collective in collaboration with the Beacon, Nadia's residency has been a great success.

The fun, interactive and funky sessions led by Nadia gives everyone the chance to boogie along to a vibrant soundtrack of funk, disco, afrobeat and salsa music.

Greenock Telegraph:

Nadia also uses props to engage and interact with little ones.

The classes have also proved to be a big hit with mums by providing a relaxed and social environment to meet other parents.

Greenock Telegraph:

Two-year-old Olivia Cannon joined in the session with her gran Kathleen Lyons.

Kathleen said: "It is great to have something to come along to with Olivia while her mum and dad are working.

"We enjoyed it."

Mum Ashley McGlone from Greenock was enjoying the dancing sessions with son Matthew, two.

She said: "It is great to have something that we can come along to together and have fun. He is loving it."
