GOUROCK Pool is making waves after Inverclyde's Provost was invited on national radio to talk about the attraction.

Drew McKenzie featured on Radio Scotland this morning with the pool in the limelight again after recently being pictured on the front of Blur's new album and then starring on ITV daytime show This Morning last week.

Councillor McKenzie was being interviewed by Gary Robertson on the Good Morning Scotland programme, which was discussing the best places to visit in Scotland during the current sunny spell.

The Provost said: "This is perfect weather for Gourock Pool, it just comes into its own.

"It's our gem down here and it attracts people, locals use it when it is open during the summer months."

He said that Inverclyde was also well placed for day trippers being to accessible from Glasgow.

He said: "We're only 50 miles from Glasgow, you get off the train at Gourock and a short walk along Kempock Street and you're at the pool."

Greenock Telegraph:

Provost McKenzie added that the town itself had so much to offer.

He said: "Kempock Street is a really iconic street in Inverclyde, full of independent shops, cafes, bars and restaurants, the place is really buzzing.

"We're just this small corner of the world down here, that not many people know about but we're so accessible."

The impressed radio presenter told Provost Drew he could get a job with Visit Scotland.

The Provost was also enthusing over other highlights the district has to offer.

He said: "If you look at Greenock Esplanade it's one of the classic walks in Scotland - it's over a mile long and you can carry past the Battery Park and the front of Gourock and out to the Cloch Lighthouse, or if you've got a car you can go out to Lunderston Bay, there's a lovely beach there, you can take a walk right round the coast, right round to Inverkip and back through Ardgowan Estates."

When asked by the interviewer about the rise in energy prices and how that has affected the pool, he replied: "It's affected all our facilities, all our swimming pools but we've managed to maintain prices as much as we can. The Gourock pool is popular right through to September.

"It's heated and the views from it are something special, but the best time to go to the Gourock pool is when it is pouring down with rain, because you get in there because it's like a sauna when you're swimming. This weather just attracts everyone, it will be a super day down there, a super forecast for today and it will be really busy."
